"Now is the time for all good men to come to" - Walt Kelly, author of POGO

The Lincoln Day Dinner was a hopeful sign.  The hall was jam-packed!  Lots of very good people running for office and plenty of supporters and people wanting to help change things for the better.  The Cedar Lake contingent took up two tables.  But we need more people who care...

Whether you consider yourself a Conservative or a Tea Party Patriot or a Constitutionalist or a Republican, it must be obvious to all that our country needs help!  Wake up, everybody!  It is broke, it does need fixing and it needs to be done from the ground up.  We residents of South Lake County need to address local issues as well as state and national concerns.  While we have gone about our lives, others have been breaking what we call America!

For this reason, all are welcome to join us on Monday, March 1st at South Side Pizza in Cedar Lake, Indiana in the shopping center mall known as Lincoln Plaza.  Just a bit more than a half a mile East of the corner of Lakeshore Drive and US 41.

Welcome,  We a are proud group of hard working people that take much pride in our community. Our goals for the future are to encourage the next generation to become involved in local politics.  There is much work to be done in our growing community, and we are looking for good candidates to fill those very important seats that will determine the direction that Cedar Lake takes.

Whether it's a leadership role that interests you, or working behind the scenes. It takes a group effort to get things done.

WE NEED YOU!

We Meet On The First Monday Of Every Month
At South Side Pizzeria
111 Broadway (Lincoln Plaza)
Cedar Lake In. 46303

Sunday meetup with Marlin Stutzman at Living Stones Church in Crown Point!

Living Stones Fellowship
909 Pratt Street
Crown Point, IN 46307-3040
(219) 663-7729

From 10 AM to 11 AM in the Marriage Class Room (enter by the door closest to the South-West corner of the building)  Marlin Stutzman will be mingling with people and answering questions.  Marlin Stutzman is the early leader in polling for the Republican nomination for the Senate seat held by the retiring Evan Bayh.

Howe, IN - On the heels of a strong endorsement from Senate Pro Tempore David Long, twenty two additional State Senators from all corners of Indiana endorsed Stutzman's campaign for US Senate. Sen. Carlin Yoder (R-Middlebury) stated "It really goes to the character of Marlin that so many people who have worked with him day in and day out didn't hesitate to sign on to this US Senate race. The bottom line is they know we need leaders like Marlin to address the challenges of our country." Stutzman has been running for 11 months and has traveled nearly 20,000 miles across the state to galvanize the conservative base. The Washington Republican establishment recruited their own candidate last month. That decision has been met with significant push back from local and grassroots Republicans. Marlin clearly has the courage it takes to take on the Washington establishment. These endorsements today also indicate Stutzman is the type of insurgent candidate who can win this May's primary. The twenty three senators are listed below.
Stutzman Secures Endorsements
"I am grateful for the support of so many people I admire and respect.
I believe my colleagues understand that Washington is broken. We
need new leadership to work on the kind of substantive reforms we
have been able to accomplish here in Indiana.

Trivial historical pursuit!  How many times bigger was the latest "Louisiana Purchase"  (The bribery of Mary Landrieu to vote for Obamacare) versus the original?  (Answer at bottom)

From CFIF: In 1803, then-President Thomas Jefferson sent his close personal friend, James Monroe, to France, to join U.S. Minister to France Robert Livingston. The men were tasked with securing for the U.S. permanent rights to the critical port city of New Orleans, which was at the time a French possession in the Americas. Authorized solely to purchase the city of New Orleans and a tract of land east of the Mississippi River, with a budget not to exceed $10 million, what the two men actually negotiated differed considerably from what Congress and the President had authorized.

Gaye Wilson, a researcher at Jefferson’s Monticello, writes:

“[O]n what Jefferson later called ‘a fugitive occurrence,’ Monroe and Livingston immediately entered into negotiations and on April 30 reached an agreement that exceeded their authority - the purchase of the Louisiana territory, including New Orleans, for $15 million. The acquisition of approximately 827,000 square miles would double the size of the United States.”

In 2009, Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA), negotiated what came to be called her own “Louisiana Purchase,” striking a deal for up to $300 million in Medicaid subsidies for the Bayou State in exchange for her “yes” vote on Senate health care reform legislation.

ANSWER: The Obama Administration was willing to pay 20 times the cost of that historic massive acquisition of territory in order to bribe one Senator to vote for Obamacare. Wow!

Why We Should Rally Around Marlin Stutzman in Indiana

Posted by Erick Erickson  Monday, February 15th at 1:42PM EST

With the surprise announcement today of Democratic Senator and former Indiana Governor Evan Bayh retiring, the dynamics dramatically change for the Republicans in Indiana. The DC Republican crowd pushed former Senator Dan Coats into the race last week. I get that a lot of people will back Dan Coats. I have a lot of respect for Dan Coats. But the man retired in 1998 and then publicly announced he was moving to North Carolina. Then he became a lobbyist. The GOP needs to change its public image that voters have. It should not be using retired Senators who moved out of the state and become a lobbyist to do that. We need younger faces and fresher voices. We need guys like Marco Rubio. And we need guys like Marlin Stutzman.

Marlin is pro-life. He supports the second amendment. He will be right on spending. He is a perfect fit for Indiana. His farming background is compelling. He’s voted conservatively in the Indiana legislature. I believe the GOP can do better and can rebuild and can raise up young conservative leaders. I believe Marlin Stutzman fits the bill and is someone we will not regret rallying behind. I have given the guy money. He’s got my support. I hope you’ll take a look too.

At a time when Republicans poll worse than Democrats, but have, ironically, a chance to take back Congress, we need new guys so that the voters, if the GOP does take back Congress, the voters will not regret the decision.

Our PRIMARY purpose: May 4th is coming fast! Evan Bayh is going going gone!

Dear friends and readers,

The primaries are often ignored, but this is the opportunity that we, as voters, have to select the candidate we prefer from among the many choices.  In November we will basically have two choices and one of them is bound to be a bad one.

This Indiana primary coming up in May is your chance to make sure that the Republican candidate is going to be a good one and hopefully a great one!   Please make it part of your agenda to investigate the people running for office in your areas and certainly statewide.  Get a ballot and vote in the primary elections!

How often have I heard someone say that "I am an independent and do not wish to be associated with one party?"   Guess what?  You can be as independent as you like and still contribute to the process by supporting your candidate NOW while he or she has a chance to get on the ballot.  No one is going to tattoo an elephant on your bicep if you take a Republican ballot in the spring.  What will matter is this; You will get a say in who is still there in November!  You really do matter in the primaries.  Think about it...

Evan Bayh is saying goodbye to the Senate.  A JFK-style Democrat, he was one of the more moderate Democrats in the Senate and despite the language of his press release his decision is a blow to the Obama Administration for, as he says and I quote: "I am constantly reminded that if Washington, D.C., could be more like Indiana, Washington would be a better place."

Goodbye Senator, we will try to vote in someone who believes that statement with all of his heart and mind!

Len Reynolds
Vice Chairman

Life is a series of chances
It is a shame, there are so many talented individuals worthy, qualified, and capable to win elections, don't and won't because they have difficulty seeing the big picture. Ronald Reagan, as president of the Screen Actors Guild, felt strongly enough about the subject of communism in Hollywood that he did something about it. His passion for what was right, drove him toward the facts which ultimately swayed him from a liberal to a conservative mindset. He didn't win every role he auditioned for, nor did Abraham Lincoln or Perry Ferrini win every election in which they ran. But they all shared something in common.. They felt passion in their beliefs.

These men ran in the elections they ran in, not because of their chances of winning or losing, they ran because they were driven by their passion for what was right. Anyone who has seriously thought of running for office, embrace that passion and run, run, run. Run hard. Run firm. Run strong. But most importantly, run because you believe.

Fraternally Yours,
Len A Reynolds

Why Martin Luther King Was Republican

Why Martin Luther King Was Republican

It should come as no surprise that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. In that era, almost all black Americans were Republicans. Why? From its founding in 1854 as the anti-slavery party until today, the Republican Party has championed freedom and civil rights for blacks. And as one pundit so succinctly stated, the Democrat Party is as it always has been, the party of the four S's: slavery, secession, segregation and now socialism.

It was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws. The Democrats started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks. The Democrats fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860s, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950s and 1960s.

During the civil rights era of the 1960s, Dr. King was fighting the Democrats who stood in the school house doors, turned skin-burning fire hoses on blacks and let loose vicious dogs. It was Republican President Dwight Eisenhower who pushed to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and sent troops to Arkansas to desegregate schools. President Eisenhower also appointed Chief Justice Earl Warren to the U.S. Supreme Court, which resulted in the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision ending school segregation. Much is made of Democrat President Harry Truman's issuing an Executive Order in 1948 to desegregate the military. Not mentioned is the fact that it was Eisenhower who actually took action to effectively end segregation in the military.

Democrat President John F. Kennedy is lauded as a proponent of civil rights. However, Kennedy voted against the 1957 Civil Rights Act while he was a senator, as did Democrat Sen. Al Gore Sr. And after he became President, Kennedy was opposed to the 1963 March on Washington by Dr. King that was organized by A. Phillip Randolph, who was a black Republican. President Kennedy, through his brother Atty. Gen. Robert Kennedy, had Dr. King wiretapped and investigated by the FBI on suspicion of being a Communist in order to undermine Dr. King.

In March of 1968, while referring to Dr. King's leaving Memphis, Tenn., after riots broke out where a teenager was killed, Democrat Sen. Robert Byrd (W.Va.), a former member of the Ku Klux Klan, called Dr. King a "trouble-maker" who starts trouble, but runs like a coward after trouble is ignited. A few weeks later, Dr. King returned to Memphis and was assassinated on April 4, 1968.

Given the circumstances of that era, it is understandable why Dr. King was a Republican. It was the Republicans who fought to free blacks from slavery and amended the Constitution to grant blacks freedom (13th Amendment), citizenship (14th Amendment) and the right to vote (15th Amendment). Republicans passed the civil rights laws of the 1860s, including the Civil Rights Act of 1866 and the Reconstruction Act of 1867 that was designed to establish a new government system in the Democrat-controlled South, one that was fair to blacks. Republicans also started the NAACP and affirmative action with Republican President Richard Nixon's 1969 Philadelphia Plan (crafted by black Republican Art Fletcher) that set the nation's fist goals and timetables. Although affirmative action now has been turned by the Democrats into an unfair quota system, affirmative action was begun by Nixon to counter the harm caused to blacks when Democrat President Woodrow Wilson in 1912 kicked all of the blacks out of federal government jobs.

Few black Americans know that it was Republicans who founded the Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Unknown also is the fact that Republican Sen. Everett Dirksen from Illinois was key to the passage of civil rights legislation in 1957, 1960, 1964 and 1965. Not mentioned in recent media stories about extension of the 1965 Voting Rights Act is the fact that Dirksen wrote the language for the bill. Dirksen also crafted the language for the Civil Rights Act of 1968 which prohibited discrimination in housing. President Lyndon Johnson could not have achieved passage of civil rights legislation without the support of Republicans.

Critics of Republican Sen. Barry Goldwater, who ran for President against Johnson in 1964, ignore the fact that Goldwater wanted to force the Democrats in the South to stop passing discriminatory laws and thus end the need to continuously enact federal civil rights legislation.

Those who wrongly criticize Goldwater also ignore the fact that Johnson, in his 4,500 State of the Union Address delivered on Jan. 4, 1965, mentioned scores of topics for federal action, but only 35 words were devoted to civil rights. He did not mention one word about voting rights. Then in 1967, showing his anger with Dr. King's protest against the Vietnam War, Johnson referred to Dr. King as "that Nigger preacher."

Contrary to the false assertions by Democrats, the racist "Dixiecrats" did not all migrate to the Republican Party. "Dixiecrats" declared that they would rather vote for a "yellow dog" than vote for a Republican because the Republican Party was know as the party for blacks. Today, some of those "Dixiecrats" continue their political careers as Democrats, including Robert Byrd, who is well known for having been a "Keagle" in the Ku Klux Klan.

Another former "Dixiecrat" is former Democrat Sen. Ernest Hollings, who put up the Confederate flag over the state Capitol when he was the governor of South Carolina. There was no public outcry when Democrat Sen. Christopher Dodd praised Byrd as someone who would have been "a great senator for any moment," including the Civil War. Yet Democrats denounced then-Senate GOP leader Trent Lott for his remarks about Sen. Strom Thurmond (R.-S.C.). Thurmond was never in the Ku Klux Klan and defended blacks against lynching and the discriminatory poll taxes imposed on blacks by Democrats. If Byrd and Thurmond were alive during the Civil War, and Byrd had his way, Thurmond would have been lynched.

The 30-year odyssey of the South switching to the Republican Party began in the 1970s with President Richard Nixon's "Southern Strategy," which was an effort on the part of Nixon to get Christians in the South to stop voting for Democrats who did not share their values and were still discriminating against their fellow Christians who happened to be black. Georgia did not switch until 2002, and some Southern states, including Louisiana, are still controlled by Democrats.

Today, Democrats, in pursuit of their socialist agenda, are fighting to keep blacks poor, angry and voting for Democrats. Examples of how egregiously Democrats act to keep blacks in poverty are numerous.

After wrongly convincing black Americans that a minimum wage increase was a good thing, the Democrats on August 3 kept their promise and killed the minimum wage bill passed by House Republicans on July 29. The blockage of the minimum wage bill was the second time in as many years that Democrats stuck a legislative finger in the eye of black Americans. Senate Democrats on April 1, 2004, blocked passage of a bill to renew the 1996 welfare reform law that was pushed by Republicans and vetoed twice by President Clinton before he finally signed it. Since the welfare reform law expired in September 2002, Congress had passed six extensions, and the latest expired on June 30, 2004. Opposed by the Democrats are school choice opportunity scholarships that would help black children get out of failing schools and Social Security reform, even though blacks on average lose $10,000 in the current system because of a shorter life expectancy than whites (72.2 years for blacks vs. 77.5 years for whites).

Democrats have been running our inner-cities for the past 30 to 40 years, and blacks are still complaining about the same problems. More than $7 trillion dollars have been spent on poverty programs since Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty with little, if any, impact on poverty. Diabolically, every election cycle, Democrats blame Republicans for the deplorable conditions in the inner-cities, then incite blacks to cast a protest vote against Republicans.

In order to break the Democrats' stranglehold on the black vote and free black Americans from the Democrat Party's economic plantation, we must shed the light of truth on the Democrats. We must demonstrate that the Democrat Party policies of socialism and dependency on government handouts offer the pathway to poverty, while Republican Party principles of hard work, personal responsibility, getting a good education and ownership of homes and small businesses offer the pathway to prosperity.

Kim Krull, Lake County GOP Chairman - The State of the Republican Party

Chairman's Comments
State of the Republican Party 2010

What an amazing time it is to be a Republican! Who would have ever thought that a Republican could win a senate seat in the bluest of blue states of Massachusetts! So if a blue state can elect a Republican to a US Senate seat, I have no doubt that a blue county can elect many Republicans.
The Lake County Republican Party is only as strong as its members, and it will take the work of all of us to increase that strength. We need to work together to give the voters of Lake County an alternative. Now having said that, comes my encouragement to run for public office. This could be a great year for Republicans to win offices based on the general mistrust and disgust of many people out there. Some of you have already stepped up. To those of you who have, I thank you.

Are you a person who cares about the direction your town, city, county, or state is going? Are you involved with the Republican Party, other service organizations or have a network of friends? Are you ready to work hard walking door to door, sacrificing family time, raising money, and putting together a team to work with you? Are you a leader? If you answered YES to all of those than you will make an excellent candidate.

I would like to see all these open positions filled in the primary. A candidate will have a better chance of winning in the general election if he/she runs in the primary also.

If you don't feel the calling to make the commitment to run for public office, then you can always help your local candidate make phone calls, walk door to door, stuff envelopes, etc... There are many ways you can assist the Republican Party to help strengthen us.

Being able to fund these campaigns is another challenge that we have. Our largest fundraiser of the year, Lincoln Day, is coming up this month on the 27th. You can assist by purchasing tickets, Gold Tables, or Sponsorships.

We don't have a paid staff. Our Executive Committee, all City and Town Chairs, our Webmaster (that would be me again until someone else volunteers!), and our Newsletter Editor all work for free in our "spare" time. So, all the money that the Central Committee makes during our fundraisers goes to pay the necessary bills we have to function as a party and to fund candidates.

So remember that the State of the Republican Party depends on all of us. Are you ready step up and help strengthen us?

Kim

AmericanVet says:  My wife and I attended the meeting of February 1st and I was both moved and somewhat ashamed of myself for having taken so long to take action.  I listened to the men and women like Mr. Wornhoff and Mr. Carnahan and Mr. Landske and others like them, good people who have worked so hard, wearing multiple hats to get things done in Cedar Lake with little help or thanks.  Sure, I voted for them.  But now I am going to get in the trenches with them.

Cedar Lake and Hanover and Center Township people - if we all do something then the few do not have to do it all and more will get done.  IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY with the way things are then come to the meeting on March 1st and meet with us!

Funny but not quite funny? Democrats give America the bird...

Cedar Lake, Indiana. My home town. My hope is to demonstrate how a group of dedicated individuals, most of them Republicans, have worked to make Cedar Lake a growing, vibrant and homey community that works and works well. We'll talk about recent history and future plans, introduce you to candidates for office, talk about the 2010 census and many other events, people and things.

Republican Robert Carnahan is a Town Concilman and also our local go-to man for the 2010 census.

Nope, you cannot make him out in this picture from the 2009 Labor Day Parade, but he is there amongst the flags.  He did draw notice in the local papers recently, to wit:

Census PR earns town notice

Cedar Lake campaign to push population count shares the stage in D.C.

CEDAR LAKE | Local census guru Robert Carnahan took his show to the nation's capitol last week, spreading word of the town's census awareness campaign.

Carnahan was the only census representative from Indiana whom the U.S. Census Bureau invited to participate in the 2010 Census Advertising Campaign preview Jan. 14 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.

Ever the Cedar Lake cheerleader, Carnahan, a Republican councilman representing the 1st Ward, went to Washington, D.C., with local census materials and a PowerPoint presentation from his Cedar Lake Census Complete Count Committee.

Carnahan told the Cedar Lake Town Council he spent his first evening at dinner Tuesday with census staffers.
"I had Cedar Lake stuff spread across the table," he said. "We didn't just do dinner. We did business."
The preview, which unveiled the national census awareness campaign, was emceed by James Brown, sports broadcaster and host of CBS' "NFL Today."

Carnahan said he presented Cedar Lake's ambitious census effort to census leaders from across the country. An Alabama representative requested copies of Cedar Lake's materials.

"The census is so important. ... It will affect how we run the town in the next 10 years," Carnahan told his fellow councilmen.

While the national campaign is spending an unprecedented $340 million on advertising and marketing efforts, Cedar Lake is spreading the Everybody Counts message in grass-roots ways.  Since May, the committee included information on the value of filling out the census form in the Cedar Lake Boys & Girls Club newsletter and displayed the message in the Lowell Labor Day Parade and Harvest Parade of Light. Members produced handouts, made information available at school events and spoke to civic and church groups.

Carnahan said the town lost a lot of tax revenue with its 68 percent participation in the 2000 census.
The town can expect to lose $826 for every person not counted, which over 10 years amounts to a total loss of $8,260 per person, Carnahan said.  "This time it's 10 simple questions. No more long forms,"
Census forms are to be mailed in late February and in March for completion by April 1.
