Republicans in Cedar Lake and Hanover Township First Monday Meeting`

Hear ye, hear ye!

The Cedar Lake/Hanover Republicans of Lake County, IN

Our next meeting will be held on Monday December 5th 7pm @ in the trustee's building. 13330 Parrish Ave. Cedar Lake.   (Some of you longtime residents will remember that this was the old library building at the corner of the former Wilco Shopping Center at the corner of Lakeshore Drive/133rd and Parrish).

This is your chance to meet the folks who are working hard to make Cedar Lake a continually improving place to live and work and raise your children.   This is a great way to get involved without running for office or making speeches.   Just come if just to find out what goes on.

I want to thank Robert Carnahan for sending me lots of information I could not use due to some issues with a software program. He helpfully sent me some minutes and announcements that did not get posted. As Christmas approaches I do believe I have the problem solved so I hope he will keep on sending me things and now I will actually be able to post them, or most of them, with things settled.

Keep updated on County Events by checking out the Lake County GOP page.

KIM KRULL is LAKE COUNTY GOP CHAIRMAN

Tidbits from your friendly neighborhood blogger:

Did you know that the Major News Media used to use the color Blue to represent Republicans and Red to represent Democrats on maps showing political strength or election victories, etc?   After the Days of Rage and the 1968 elections, charges that the Democratic Party was synonymous with Communists (Reds) caused the Dems to eventually ask the news media to reverse the color scheme after the 1984 elections in which David Brinkley famously described as a "sea of blue."  Ronald Reagan had won 49 of the 50 States.  In time they complied, one news organization at a time.  Finally, after the 2000 elections the American News Media in general got together and began showing Republicans as Red and Democrats as Blue.

Throughout the world, this is the opposite of what the colors normally mean.   In Canada and the UK conservatives are associated with blue while labour-socialists are red.   Communist nations are often referred to as red, such as Red China.  So we understand why Democrats do not want the color red, as they are becoming more like the Communist Party every day!

Check out this blogpost to see what I mean!

Thanksgiving is over, so some of Kim's latest post would be outdated but this part I like and I do not care what ABC/CBS.NBC/MSNC might say, I am posting it in blue:

"...This past November 8th, the Republicans in Lake County gained 9 seats! We gained a council seat and Judge in Lowell, 3 council seats and clerk-treasurer in Cedar Lake, a clerk-treasurer and council seat in Griffith, 2 council seats in St John and a council seat and clerk-treasurer in Schneider. Although we lost Councilwoman Sharon Moore in Schererville and Councilwoman Kim Poland in Hammond, all of the rest of our incumbents were re-elected and those who retired had their Republican replacement win!

Our success, although bleak north of Ridge Road, is extremely strong south. Cedar Lake now joins Munster in being all Republican! Republicans in Crown Point, St John, Griffith, Schneider, Dyer, and Winfield all hold a majority on their council. We are building strength with the team we have put together, and it shows!

Your city and town chairmen have done an excellent job recruiting qualified candidates and assisting them with their campaigns. I thank all of them. I also thank Jim Cuffia who worked tirelessly in the Victory Phone Center assisting candidates with scripts and setting up databases.

Thanks to all of you for supporting the Lake County GOP. If you like the results we are getting, I ask that you help continue these victories by donating to the party today and throughout the year. We need money to support not only the operating expenses, but tools to get our candidates elected. With the right funding, we can win mayoral seats in 2015. So show your thanks and donate today! Send a check for $5, $25, or more to LCRCC, PO Box 344, Crown Point, IN 46308..."

Why You Should Vote for The Republican Team November 8th in Cedar Lake/Hanover Township

Cedar Lake's Republican Team for the 2011 elections!

On Tuesday, November 8th we have the Town elections for 2011 and there is a five-person team running for office I want to personally recommend.  First the incumbents in office.   The improvements and service upgrades the town has realized from Republican leadership recommends these three people without a word from me.  But I have had the advantage of getting to know them personally and to some extent professionally, so I want to give my two cents worth on each of them.  By the way, if you attended Summerfest you no doubt saw some of these candidates and perhaps all.   Summerfest was my chance to get to know these five candidates better than our normal monthly meetings and random events.   So here we go...

AMY SUND - CURRENT CLERK/TREASURER

Amy has changed the old, archaic system into a modernized and efficient one.   I personally appreciate the effortless automatic withdrawal of funds to pay my utilities bill and the more informative bill information that Amy has implemented.   It is notable that Amy was a Democrat at one time, and naturally while sitting with her one afternoon at this year's Summerfest that subject came up.   I asked her what motivated her to leave her party and come over to the Republicans.  She said this word for word, "My party left me!"   That is not the first time I have heard that said but it was heartfelt even if it was not coined by Amy personally.   Her professionalism and dedication and willingness to innovate are valuable commodities to our town.  She has the credentials to work for a much larger organization and probably for more money.  Most Town residents probably do not realize how great it is for them that Amy Sund is in place in one of the most vital offices in the Town.  Her ability to manage and invest our funds make new projects possible.   We are indeed fortunate Amy Sund has chosen to serve the people of Cedar Lake in office!

JOHN FOREMAN -CURRENT WARD #2 COUNCILMAN

Speaking of innovation, both John and I work in the IT industry, and his experience and technological expertise are vital to the direction the Town of Cedar Lake is heading.   When John held a fundraiser, he made it into an idea-gathering party and took input from everyone about what should change and what should not change in Cedar Lake.   He reached out to me to do some research into some technologies that fall into my business space, not to purchase but simply to get information and collate it for future planning.   John's business acumen is important to the council discussions concerning planning and expenditures while his forward-thinking approach provides an out-of-the-box point of view whenever problems are considered.   Let's face it, in the 21st Century you need to have a professional geek!  John (no offense, John, I'm one too!) may be a geek, but he is more than just a geek.  He is an accomplished business professional who would make more money putting his Town time into his business, but he cares enough about his community to go all in for the Town when it is time to work for the Town.  With multiple degrees and interests, he is a valuable asset to Cedar Lake.

GREGORY PARKER - CURRENT WARD #7 COUNCILMAN

We all call him "Greg."  Greg Parker is a man's man, a working man, strong, tough and yet also ready and willing to listen to all sides of a problem and consider any and all solutions no matter who gets credit for the concept.  If John Foreman is our "Techie" then Greg is the pragmatist and I don't think he cares if the idea is from a Republican, a Democrat or a Vulcan - if it is the best solution, he will be for it and he will work hard to make it happen.  Greg is currently the Council Vice President and has worked on numerous boards and town projects, as you will see in the pdf sheets below my text.   We need Blue Collar and White Collar people working together to get important jobs like zoning and infrastructure issues resolved.  Greg is intimately familiar with the many challenges still facing us and is knee-deep in the job of resolving the problems and providing new opportunities.  Dictionary Definition of PRAGMATISM-  "a practical approach to problems and affairs" So when you consider the reasons why Cedar Lake has successfully grown and improved over the last few years, understand that one of those reasons is named "Greg" Parker.

RALPH MILLER - CANDIDATE FOR WARD #4
PATSY (KING) CASASSA - CANDIDATE FOR WARD #6

If you think it strange that I lump the two candidates together,  as it happens I got to sit with both of them together for long stretches of time during Summerfest and also they often walked the walk from house to house together.  My wife, Debbie, did some walking with them and also some walking for them, passing out information about the candidates and talking to individual residents.   In any event, based on all the people who dropped by the Republican booth for a chat during Summerfest, half of Cedar Lake was delivered by Patsy's father Dr. Robert King and they then spent time with Ralph at the Boys and Girls club as they grew up!   Although you would think spending long hours in a booth at Summerfest would be boring,  Ralph and Patsy had lots of stories to tell and so many people came by to greet them that the hours passed quickly.   I can tell you both Ralph and Patsy are "people" persons, very accessible, willing to listen and learn but also with many years of experience to offer.

Both of these candidates are already integral parts of the team.   The Cedar Lake/Hanover Township Republicans include a number of candidates and officials but also plenty of people like my wife and myself who only want to be part of the solution.   When we have our monthly meetings our Town and Township officials will share issues and problems and solutions with the group at times, it is not just about getting people elected, it is about getting things done.

Patsy is already involved in the Town with the Police Commission and the Crime Watch program locally.  Her business experience and her family ties as a Cedar Lake native mean that she already knows the community and plenty of the residents and she intends to focus on getting input from the people of Cedar Lake to make sure the direction the Town is taking is the direction the people agree with and, if you live in her ward and didn't meet her personally, you must not have been home because she walked all over the area!

Ralph has already put in a life of service to the community and service has been his theme, beginning with his service in the Navy as a Vietnam Vet and a career working with area youth both for the County and then the Boys and Girls Club, becoming the Director thereof and then receiving the Distinguished Hoosier Award from Governor Daniels in 2006.  He and his wife LouAnn are experts at "cutting a rug" (dancing) and to top off a life of dedicated service to country and community he wants to be part of the Town Team that leads Cedar Lake through the challenges of growth that are here today and promise to continue.
Keeping Amy, John and Greg on the job continuing to stay ahead of growth and fixing the mistakes of the past is critical for the future of Cedar Lake in my opinion.   I am sure that Ralph and Patsy will make the team stronger and even more accessible to the people.   The Cedar Lake/Hanover Rpublicans have many members who give their time, energy and resources to grow the town.   The Town of Cedar Lake was put together many years ago with little thought given to future growth or zoning issues or infrastructure and it was a mish-mash of former cottages converted into homes, residences in business zones and businesses in residential areas with poorly designed streets, archaic sewage plans, little future planning and almost no sidewalks or well-designed and maintained parks.  If you have lived here for awhile you know what I mean.

Now I see what has been accomplished and especially with more help and attention from Indianapolis in large part due to State Senator Sue Landske (who occasionally attends our meetings and whose husband, Bill, is a Town Councilman)  we have greatly improved the infrastructure of the Town, policies have been firmly established, new opportunities pursued, much of the lakeshore gentrified including a very classy restaurant, the Lighthouse, and a row of attractive condominiums and tremendous improvements to our schools.    There are many folks who are willing to take credit for projects begun by Republicans before the 2008 elections and Republican leadership was restored in 2010, which guaranteed that the momentum of smart step-by-step improvements would translate into progress maintained.

All this is my opinion and not an official proclamation of the Republican Party.  I am a simple citzen like you, one who likes the Cedar Lake that is growing with wise planning and careful consideration of funding.   The Republicans have proven to do the job and do it well.  Let's keep the team in place and augment it with the hard-working and dedicated candidates introduced by these documents right below my opinion piece.  I personally vouch for all five of these candidates for what it is worth and my wife and I will continue to work to help them and support them in the effort to continue to grow and improve our Town!

Time to Change the Culture of Corruption

The Lake County Democratic Party aka I am shocked, shocked, that there is corruption in the Democrat party!

"Time to Change the Culture of Corruption

by Kim Dugger Krull on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 8:09pm

On the very day that Lake County Democratic Coroner, Thomas Philpot, was indicted on charges of public corruption, Lake County Democratic leaders are wondering why Governor Daniels said Lake County is known for governmental corruption. This reminds me of the Hans Christian Anderson story about the Emperor who ran around naked thinking he had on beautiful clothes just because some scam artist weavers told him he had on finely woven clothes that you could not see if you were unfit to hold office or a simpleton. So everyone pretended he had on these beautiful clothes because they didn’t want to believe they were unfit.

Lake County has seen at least fifty democratic public officials convicted of some form of public corruption since 2000. For those of you who don’t remember the names, here are a few: George Pabey, Bob Cantrell, Frankie Kollintzas, Robert Pastrick, James Fife, Jewell Harris Sr., Katie Hall, Will Smith Jr., Dozier Allen, Jojuanna Meeks, Peter Manous, and Kevin Pastrick. Now we have our current Coroner, Thomas Philpot, charged with theft for the time he was County Clerk!

How much longer are we going to stand by and let these people fool us? The Democratic Chairman said last year, "I'm two decades younger than these guys. We're all embarrassed by the reputation Lake County has. But I'm not part of it. I just happen to live here.” Really? You aren’t part of the problem? Isn’t it your party that keeps sending a message out to “Punch 10” no matter who is on the ballot to try to ensure that democrats, even if they are charged with a crime like Carol Ann Seaton last year, still get elected? Aren’t you the one that went downstate and hired lobbyists to stop the funding of Operations and Maintenance of the Little Calumet River Commission so your pal democratic surveyor George Van Til and you could cook up a new scheme for your friends and family plan? You Mr. Chairman are good friends with Mr. Woerpel who is the Hammond Democratic Chairman and was caught growing pot in his home. You are also good friends of Mr. Philpot who was just indicted! Excuse me sir, but you are part of the problem. You are the reason why the rest of the state doesn’t respect us. This culture of corruption must stop!

Indiana is ranked 5th in the Top States for Doing Business Survey. However, out of the top 50 public corporations in Indiana only one is located in Lake County. The democratic chairman had this to say concerning that one, NIPSCO, “Somebody has to stand up to this company…. NIPSCO’s done nothing to help me.” Do you mean NIPSCO hasn’t lined your pockets?

As the Republican Chairman in Lake County, I have given voters of Lake County a choice this Election Day. We have attracted many good, honest people to run for mayor and council positions this fall. You can “Punch 10” like you are told by the weavers and continue to pretend the emperor is wearing beautiful clothes or you can vote for honest people who want to be public servants and turn this culture of corruption into a culture of respect and prosperity."

A Salute to the American Spirit on 9/11

credit

From wikipedia, a rare source for me but this descibes what happened well:

September 17, 2001

One of Jack Buck's final public appearances was on September 17, 2001 at Busch Memorial Stadium in St. Louis. It was the first night that Major League Baseball resumed after the terrorist attacks of September 11. Although looking rather frail (Buck at the time was sick with lung cancer) and struggling to maintain his composure (Buck was obviously showing the signs of Parkinson's disease as well), Buck stirred emotions[6] by reading a patriotic-themed poem during the pregame ceremonies. He concluded by silencing critics who thought baseball had come back too soon: "I don't know about you, but as for me, the question has already been answered: Should we be here? Yes!"
For America

Buck shown delivering a speech on the scoreboard at Busch Stadium.
Buck wrote a poem named For America that he read at the first Cardinals game after the 9/11 attacks to describe his opinion and the general opinion, regarding defeating terrorism, of Americans after September 11. The poem went:
Since this nation was founded under
God, more than 200 years ago,
We've been the bastion of
Freedom...
The light which keeps the free world
Aglow.
We do not covet the possessions of
Others, we are blessed with the
Bounty we share.
We have rushed to help other
Nations...anything...anytime...
Anywhere.
War is just not our nature...we
Won't start, but we will end the fight.
If we are involved we shall be
Resolved to protect what we know is
Right.
We've been challenged by a
Cowardly foe, who strikes and then
Hides from our view.
With one voice we say there's no
Choice today, there is only one
Thing to do.
Everyone is saying the same thing
And praying that we end these
Senseless moments we are living.
As our fathers did before, we shall
Win this unwanted war.
And our children will enjoy the
Future, we'll be giving.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Even so, Jack, I believe we can recapture the greatness America once had.
My son Rob, Sergeant Binder (In Afghanistan at the time), like his father and grandfathers and great-grandfather before him an Army guy, below:
I was at the concert along with my wife and my daughter and son-in-law plus a couple of random couples who just kind of decided they wanted to sit with us during the concert.   My daughter Sara loves country music and I am trying to get into it but I had no trouble relating to Toby Keith.   This You Tube video includes footage of Toby Keith singing live at that particular concert in Tinley Park and much of the other footage was playing on big screens over his head during the song.   Didn't know until today they were filming for a video at that concert but it is a great venue.   I can tell you the crowd was cheering and crying and jumping and singing along with Toby, he is a great showman and a terrific entertainer but you do believe he means what he says.  He is one of the many patriotic musicians who go overseas and spend time with the people who go to the sandbox and go across/over that wire to face the enemy and protect the innocent.   People like Toby Keith and Ted Nugent will go far from the safer zones and go up near the front to be with the men who may well be risking their lives later that day.
Some of us have forgotten that there is still a war on.   The Islamofascists are still blowing things and people to bits.   They still want to force Sharia Law on society or sneak in in by by regulations passed by Dhimmis who kowtow to them.   Islam will not quit trying to destroy the USA and Israel because should America quit caring and should Israel quit fighting the Islamists would rule the entire Middle East!
The socialists and communists have Red China and North Korea and they still want to take the USA over, they want to reacquire and rule the old Soviet Union, they are seeking to consolidate power in South America and they continue to own Cuba right under our Florida feet.    They won't quit.   They must be beaten.
Finally, let us not forget the victims and the heroes of that day.   The thousands who perished in the Twin Towers and the Pentagon and on Flight 93 and the words, "Let's Roll" will live on in our memories.  Todd Beamer recited the Lord's Prayer over the phone with a GTE representative and then he and his team went to attack and stop the hijackers, his last words ringing in Lisa Jefferson's ears; "Let's Roll."    Thus passengers made sure that plane would NOT hit the White House...at the expense of their own lives, but they understood the situation and they would NOT be part of the cowardly Islamic plot.
May God watch over our friends who are still in military service:
Johnny
Cecil
Chuck
Adam
Andy
Tom
And their families!
When you pray for the soldiers and sailors and air force and marines and coast guard, remember your border guards and port security and marshals.  Remember the firemen and policemen and emergency personnel, too.  They all risk their lives for your sake. All the men and women providing security, all the first responders who race to danger.   God bless them, every one!!!
Back to School Safely in 2011
Some of us are well beyond our school years, you know, back when we had to walk five miles to school and back all uphill both ways?   But we all have to remember that school is back in session and be aware of the safety issues - with a hat tip to our Town Council head Robert Carnahan:
With summer ending and the start of school just around the corner, drivers need to be proactive to keep kids safe as they head back to school. Whether you are taking your kids to school or driving through a school zone, you can do your part to keep kids safe.
Remember that speed limits are significantly lower in school zones as children are walking to and from school, and school buses are exiting and entering the roadway. Signs will alert drivers that they’re entering a school zone. Some school zones are also marked by flashing yellow lights when the reduced speed limits are in effect.
About 756,000 children are expected to ride Hoosier school buses this year. Many children board school buses in the pre-dawn hours and it can be difficult for drivers to see them in the dark. On average, 26 children are killed every year while getting on or off a school bus or while waiting at the bus stop.
Here are some simple reminders for drivers:
  • Slow down and be especially alert in the residential neighborhoods and school zones.
  • Take extra time to look for kids at intersections, on medians and on curbs.
  • Enter and exit driveways and alleys slowly and carefully.
  • Watch for children on and near the road in the morning and after school hours.
  • Reduce any distractions inside your car so you can concentrate on the road and your surroundings.
  • Put down your phone and don’t talk or text while driving.
Reminder for your kids when walking to school:
  • They should cross the street with an adult until they are at least 10 years old.
  • Cross the street at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks.
  • Never run out into the streets or cross in between parked cars.
  • Make sure they always walk in front of the bus where the driver can see them.
Safety for kids when riding the bus:
  • Get to the bus stop at least five minutes early.
  • When the bus approaches, have children stand at least three giant steps away from the curb.
  • If a bus stop is located on a busy road or intersection, an adult should be present to supervise children waiting for the bus.
Make sure children understand to always stay seated while the bus is in motion, and to follow any directions from the bus driver. If a child drops something near the bus, instruct them to tell the bus driver, rather than trying to pick it up themselves.
Sincerely,
Angie Fegaras, Chief of Staff
On behalf of the Staff of LaPorte District – INDOT
