Time to get it in gear for the elections of 2012! Summerfest and candidate school...

A word from Kim Krull and the scoop on Summerfest!

Kim KrullChairman's CommentsLadies and Gentlemen Start Your Engines!
As I heard those words for the first time in person this past weekend at the Indianapolis 500, I wasn't thinking about politics. Chills were running up and down my spine and my heart was pounding as the race I watched on TV every year since they started broadcasting it live, was now about to begin right in front of my eyes. Tears of pride streamed down my face as they played the national anthem and then the stealth bomber flew over head. Tears continued as they played taps, and I thought about my dad's service in WWII and his birthday that would have been 2 days earlier if he was still here. We didn't know who would win the race, but we knew there would be a winner.

So Kim, we're glad you had a good time at your first race, but what does that have to do with politics you might be saying about now. Well, first of all, we know there will be a winner in all races on November 8th, but we don't know who those winners will be. I can guarantee that none of those racers thought they would lose, and so it should be if you are a candidate for office.
Shortly after the race was won, the rookie driver who was expected to win but crashed in turn 4 (yes I was sitting in turn 4!), told the reporters that he would speak to them after he spoke to his team. You see, JR Hildebrand got it. Even though he was the driver and he would have won the BorgWarner Award, it would have been due to his team. His team was the most important part of the race to him.

It's like that when you run for public office too. If you don't have a good team behind you, you can't win the race. All candidates not only need to have a good plan, but they need many people to execute that plan along with the candidate to get to the finish line first. Your team should consist of family, friends, and political allies that want to see you win and believe in you. They will help you in the many tasks you need to do while running for office.

The second political lesson I learned from the race was that even though there were many previous Indy winners there, a rookie was going to win the 100th anniversary race! A lot of our candidates this year are Rookies. They've never run for office, they may not have even ever been involved in any campaign before. But that doesn't mean they can't win.

And the last lesson I learned from the race was that the Rookie lost not because he didn't have a plan, didn't have a team, or didn't have "the right stuff." He lost because he made a mistake almost at the finish line. So you can run a perfect campaign, but if you don't think about every last detail and what might derail your race, you can lose.

The Lake County GOP is here to help make sure you can identify the priorities and the tools necessary to win your campaign. We are putting the final touches on our 2nd annual Campaign Workshop. It is free to all current candidates and 1 campaign worker as well as all city and town chairmen. There will be a nominal fee for all others. So join us on July 9th for an exciting Campaign School and learn the necessary techniques that will help you win your race!

Kim KrullChairman's Comments
Congratulations to all of our Republican Primary winners! Now is the time to start working together to get our candidates elected. We have four mayor races and many council and other local seats to win.
There are many projects coming up. Now that re-districting is completed, we will be re-organizing the First District Committee this June. We are working on another Candidate School scheduled for July. If you are not a candidate and would like to attend, please contact your City or Town Chairman for more information. The LCRCC has secured a headquarters and will be moving the printer and other office supplies there soon. We are hoping to once again have a call center going and will underwrite a significant portion for all candidates who wish to use this amazing technology. If you missed our last county meeting, we will have another one in September. We already have another guest speaker lined up! Reagan Breakfast is October 1st. We have confirmed US Senate Candidate Richard Mourdock as a guest speaker and we are also trying to get Senator Lugar to attend as well. Dan Buksa is coordinating a straw poll so it should be a lot of fun! Get your tickets early as we are also planning on a nationally known guest speaker as our keynote speaker. More details in upcoming newsletters.
I am recruiting candidates for positions that were not filled in the primary. Our City and Town Chairs did a pretty good job of filling them, but unless we want democrats to go unopposed in the fall, everyone needs to step up to either run or encourage someone you know who is a qualified Republican candidate to run.
Lastly, you may have read over the past few weeks negative press about some of our city and town organizations. Let me assure you that these issues have been addressed. Although by reading the local papers, one wouldn't know it. Let me also explain to you that where there is growth in any organization, there will always be conflict. It is when there is stagnation and apathy that everything always runs smoothly. We have been growing and changing from a party that was stagnant to a party that is engaging and has purpose. "Where all think alike, no one thinks very much." - Walter Lippmann. So there are bound to be disagreements. I am calling though for all Republicans who truly want to get Republicans in good standing elected, to stop the negative public comments.
Like my mom always said, "If you don't have anything good to say, say nothing at all." If you don't like something, then work for change in a positive way. We are all volunteers working to make the Republican Party as well as Lake County government better. The personal attacks do nothing but slow down that process, and makes the work of all those who are volunteers, from myself to each precinct committeemen, that much harder. As Henry Ford said, "Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success." Let's strive for SUCCESS!
Kim

PrinterGate

There seemed to be an awful lot of attention paid recently to the printer in Winfield! To clear everything up, here are the facts. The printer out in Winfield was purchased by John Curley. He stored it in a vacant building that he let the LOFS Chamber use rent free 2-3 days a week. He allowed the party to use the printer as Chuck Oliver was trained to run it, and Chuck ran other jobs for John using that printer as well. After John died, the Curley family allowed the LCRCC to continue using the printer as long as we insured it and paid any maintenance and ink fees. As we did not have the funds to pay for an office at the time and the Curley family did not move the printer out, the printer remained there. We have an old file cabinet and metal book case that is also in that building. There are no other printers, duplicators or copiers in that building and never have been since I took office. There is some talk of some other equipment like that, but I do not have any proof at this time that we have ever owned such equipment or where such equipment is. I am however, in the process of auditing records to see if any such equipment was ever purchased and if so, where it might be.

Since all the uproar over the printer, I have spoken again to Janet Curley. She has been gracious enough to donate the printer now to the LCRCC as she stated she has no more use for the machine. She is also donating a picture of President Lincoln that was given to John from Target Strategies. She requested that we hang it in our new office, and I will be honoring her request.

As I am unaware of when or if any candidates use the printer, it has always been the candidates' responsibility to find out what the in-kind donation amount is from Chuck Oliver to report on any campaign finance reports. He is the one who has the knowledge of jobs done and ink/time used. Most of the time it is a nominal amount as Chuck charges a flat rate for his time and the candidates supply their own paper. The party has absorbed the maintenance, ink, and insurance costs.

I signed a contract in April for office space for the LCRCC in the St John Mall. The rent started May 1st. We are getting ready to move everything we have from Winfield to St John in the next couple of weeks. I'd like to thank Janet Curley and the Curley family for their generous donations, and Chuck and Clemmer Oliver for your time helping candidates with printing. We look forward to Chuck and Clemmer helping in the new location. ~ The Boss (according to the Times!)

As you can see the LCRCC now own the Times.  Reporting has to get better...

Primary Voting - Cedar Lake Precinct Map AND Voting locations.

Primary is Tuesday!   The Republicans of Cedar Lake and Hanover Township have only one contested race and both of them are great candidates.   First, if you do not know what Ward/Precinct you are in, the map links are below:

I made a copy but it won't zoom in like the one online:

The zoomable map is located here.

Marilyn Kaper - Ward 2 Town Council
John Foreman - Ward 2 Town Council

(Personal note:  Within my family there is a split on this choice.)

Win/win no matter who comes out on top.   Marilyn Kaper has been a devoted servant/board member/involved parent in Cedar Lake for somewhere in the vicinity of 30 years and has been an active part of the long, slow change from backwoods burgh to modern(izing) and growing community and certainly integral to making Hanover Central Schools one of the best school districts in the State of Indiana.   John Foreman (who clued me in to the location of the map online) has been part of the recent developments in town as the incumbent Council member and is familiar with and works in hi-tech industry.   John is a well-traveled professional in a highly specialized industry, Marilyn is also known to the town as her family's Cedar Lake Florist shop is a Lakeshore Drive fixture.

Running unopposed on the primary ballot:

Ralph Miller - Ward 4 Town Council

Patricia (King) Cassasa - Ward 6 Town Council

Gregory (Greg) Parker - Ward 7 Town Council

Amy Sund - Clerk Treasurer

By going to the Lake County Indiana webpage and clicking on the GIS link, you can see the precinct maps of all municipalities in Lake County, Indiana.

So once you know which precinct/ward that is yours,  you then go to the voting site for that ward.

Did you know you can go to the town website and view upcoming meetings and see announcements of meetings you may want to attend, public notices and various pieces of information?  You can get up to the minute weather information, you can get specific info for developers, see legal notifications, find out who has won awards and certifications (such as Ian Nicolini and Amy Sund) and more...

Who am I voting for in the Indiana Senate Race?

There is a time to every purpose under heaven. It is time for Dick Lugar to go quietly off into the evening and retire.

Richard Mourdock absolutely floored me when I shook his hand at the Lincoln dinner.  He recognized me and yet we had just one conversation in the last year!   Heck of a memory...but I would vote for him for Governor, for Senator, for President and be glad to see him on the Supreme Court.  Not because he remembered some random guy.   Because he has the heart of a public servant and the attitude of a statesman.   He is a true patriotic Constitution defender, a tea party enthusiast, a conservative Republican whose actions speak at least as eloquently as his words.

Fleebagger Democrat Equates Running Away to Illinois with Soldiers Serving in Afghanistan

That's District 69 Democratic State Representative Dave Cheatham (Dave Cheat 'Em) comparing his retreat to Illinois to avoid doing his job to soldiers being deployed to Afghanistan to fight for their country. Disgusting.

Our soldiers are leaving home to do a job serving their country by going to Afghanistan. The Democrats ran away from doing their jobs serving the people of Indiana by fleeing to Illinois. The soldiers in Afghanistan are fighting and dying. The Democrats aren't in pitched combat. Their lives aren't in danger. They're not dying.

There is no comparison here, and Dave Cheatham shouldn't be making one."

~~~~~~~
Let me tell you, Cheatham, you have no right to compare yourself to the brave souls who take the oath and agree to risk life and limb to serve America.   What a cowardly idiotic comparison (and I am being nice)!   My son served in Afghanistan and that ain't Illinois!!!
Tell you what, if I was in charge downstate all the Democrats that went AWOL?   They would not be paid nor would their staffs get paid.   I would begin investigating the legal means of finding replacements for them in Indianapolis so government should get back to work.   If I don't work, I don't get paid.   How about you?
