Cedar Lake Goes Republican!!!

Cedar Lake and Hanover Township went Republican.   ME?  I got so ill that I could do very little but my wife walked and walked and worked to spread the word.   I did some blogging and networking but the candidates worked hard, many going door-to-door.   I remember Mitchel Lopez coming to our door and telling us that he was going to walk the entire neighborhood and he wound up beating Jim Hunley for Hanover Township Trustee.   I believe I recall Randy Niemeyer and Robert Carnahan out going door-to-door as well.   Debbie printed up a bunch of literature and passed it out as well and helping prepare information for the County and Hank Adams actually won!  Hurrah!!!   Way to go all you winners!

Now Cedar Lake is a part of the general conservative kick-back that has swept the country.  People want no part of Obamacare and socialism and want the spending to stop and the jobs to be back.   We need energy and transparency in government and leadership that listens to the people.  

Congratuations to Dawn and Greg Wornhoff and the rest of the Cedar Lake Republican group who worked to see this result.   Congratulations to Kim Krull for spearheading an election in Lake County that saw real gains in local elections plus the great victory of Hank Adams over Seaton!

Very sorry to see that we are still stuck with Porky Pete and most of the County offices go Democrat even if Freddie Krueger would run.   But if Hank can do it this time, maybe Fine and Bursac and other good candidates can wind up and make another run at it in 2012 and come out ahead?

Yes, you can confirm your registration status there as well.   If you live in my neighborhood, I would recommend the following Cedar Lake candidates.   I have met and spoken with almost every one of these candidates.   The local Cedar Lake candidates have been very involved in local government and made an effort to be available to local voters during the run-up to the election.   I am impressed with their ability to work together as a team and I believe they have a great plan to continue the improvements being made to Cedar Lake that were begun by Republicans in the first place.  Cedar Lake?Hanover candidates are underlined.

Senator Sue Landske is of course now a legendary public servant.  Richard Mourdock is a tremendous student of US history and the Constitution and a fine public speaker.  Mark Leyva formed the Lake County Tea Party.  Hank Adams and William Fine are running against candidates who are very likely not even qualified to run for public office in Lake County.  Dan Bursac is a good-hearted and experienced lawman who is far more qualified to take over the Sheriff's office than his opponent.   Statewide candidates are in bolded type and Lake County candidates are in red.

Also, I heartily recommend that Judge John R. Pera be retained. If only every government official was as professional as Judge Pera, who makes sure that politics and judicial decisions are never mixed. 

If you live on the other side of Cline Avenue from me, you will see Dan Klein on the ballot for Indiana District 19.   A personal friend has recommended him to me,  so I am happy to recommend him to you.

Sign, Sign, everywhere a sign

Back in the days of my youth I picked up a .45 recording of the song, "Signs."   I probably had a collectable, as the label identified the band as the "Fivf Man Electical Band" which was of course a mispelling.   But it is long gone now...here is the chorus to the song:

Signs are all over the place at this time of year.   We have a few signs in our yard supporting political candidates and candidate signs are seen all over Lake County.   I noticed a few things about these signs.

POLITICAL SIGNS

1)  The majority of Democratic candidates do not identify themselves as Democrats.   Not here in South Lake County.   The spectacular failure of the national Democrats may be a reason for this.   Yes, some Republican candidates do not list their party affiliation either, but the majority of candidates not linking to a party are Democrats.

2)  Democrats in Cedar Lake are taking credit for recent projects that have been finished like the revamping of the "downtown" area even though it was the Republican-majority Town government that did the planning  and started the projects in the first place.

3)  Lots of the new homes represent Democrats who have fled Illinois to come to a state with lower taxes and housing costs.  But they so often brought their standard Democrat vote with them...not understanding that it was a Democrat-run state they had fled?  Puzzling!

4) Many houses have signs with individuals of both parties proclaimed.   Yes, a few popular names will win no matter what party they belong to.  South of US 30 the politics are dynamic, there is no slam-dunk party leadership that dominates the vast majority of town and city governments.   Elections are available for both Republicans and Democrats to win.

5) The far North of Lake County is still dominated by Democrats.   If you cannot tell from the political signs, you could tell by the other signs...
 
OTHER SIGNS

1)  Since the time of FDR, the Democrats have ruled Lake County politics and also ruled East Chicago and Gary.   In those bastions of Democrat rule, these are the common signs you see:

2)  Signs of decay as rows of once pristine and valuable brick houses have become crumbling hovels inhabited by vermin and/or homeless drug addicts.  Gary, Indiana used to be a nice song about a home town, now it is a byword for a world of poverty and gangs and corruption.

3)  Signatures on various warrants issued by authorities against various and sundry Democrat political officials.   Every year there are names like Clay or Hall being indicted for criminal activities and yet the public votes in their cohorts to continue to rob them blind and allow the corruption and decay to continue.   Even our sitting Congressman has had to assign much of his poltical war chest to hire lawyers designed to keep him out of the newspapers and perhaps even jail.

4)  Corrupt officials are merely a sign that Democrats will continue to do business as usual unless voters stop them.   Carol Ann Seaton, the Democratic candidate for Lake County assessor, is not an Indiana resident and yet the Democrats audaciously ran her for office anyway!

The Voter Information Guide contains the completed issues questionnaires that were returned to us by candidates. Unfortunately, in spite of our best and persistent efforts, most candidates chose not to return a questionnaire.

The most common reason given to us was “we don’t fill out any surveys for any organization.”

Our dedicated ACT! for America staff:

Emailed the questionnaire a minimum of three times to every campaign that had a published email address. Faxed the questionnaire to campaigns for which we could obtain a fax number. Mailed the questionnaire certified mail, return receipt requested, to hundreds of campaigns that did not have a published email address. Placed over 2,500 phone calls to campaigns, calling most campaigns more than once, to ensure they had received the questionnaire and asking that they return it to us via email or fax.

When you check out the 2010 Voter Information Guide, if the candidate you’re looking for “refused to respond,” we encourage you to contact the campaign and ask them to email the completed questionnaire to us at survey2010@actforamerica.org.

The Obama Administration plans to confiscate private pensions!

We could decide to back Tea Party Republicans and toss everyone who voted for or was associated with Obamacare out on their butts!   The oil drilling ban in the Gulf is lifted but the Obama Administration will still block permits.  Alaska drilling ban is still in place.   How many jobs are lost from this?  How much energy are we NOT getting while the economy falls apart?

I would not vote a Democrat or anyone else other than a Republican into office for Dog Catcher in these perilous times!  We need to stop the insanity from the bottom up!

Cedar Lake Girls softball is having a gulf outing on August 7, 2010 They are looking for sponsors. If any of you would like to sponsor a hole, the cost is $40.00 per hole. They will display one of your signs at your designated hole. It's a great way to get your signs seen. Also we have our Chicken dinner coming up on Sept 17th we need to get tickets ordered asap! We may need to call an additional meeting to get tickets passed out for everyone to sell. Project Love Food Pantry was founded in 1989.  The area was experiencing a down turn in the economy, and Cedar Lake United Methodist church responded to the needs of the community and surrounding area, by starting a food pantry named Project Love.

 

Project Love Food Pantry has continued to help the people in the southlake county area.  Our clients range in age from young families with children to senior citizens.  Some people only need help during a difficult time in their lives -- others -- often senior citizens live on a fixed income and they will need help for the rest of their lives.

 

In 2009 our volunteer staff, handled over 105,403 lbs. of food, paper products, personal care items and some cleaning products given to approximately 7000 people.    Clients may come to the food pantry one time each month. 

 

So far in 2010 we've served approximately 1000 people. 

 

Project Love Food Pantry is blessed to have the support of community of Cedar Lake, and its people.  

 

Items that are always needed by the pantry are as follows:

• Canned goods -- soups, vegetables, tuna, fruits etc.
• Cereals
• Pastas
• Hamburger or tuna helpers
• Snack items - pretzels, popcorn,
• Juices
• Personal care items -- toilet paper, kleenex, shampoo, face soap, deodorant, tooth paste, tooth brushes etc.
• Cleaning products -  paper towels, dish soap, laundry soap etc.

We do have freezers and refrigerators to store meats, dairy products and other perishable items.  These types of items have to be fresh and with "use by" dates that are current.

The fireworks in Washington will begin a few days early this week, although there is little cause for celebration. For starters, Democrats plan to hold a vote on their so-called budget – which is not actually a budget at all. This “fudge-it” budget will set an overall spending level for one year. That’s it. Unlike a real budget, the Democrats’ “fudge-it” contains no information on how spending will be divided up and makes no attempt to plan for future spending. It’s a way to duck responsibility for a future of more trillion dollar deficits, but it isn’t a budget.

Democrats are also poised this week to hold the final votes on legislation that, under the guise of “financial reform,” would create the structural framework for a permanent political economy. Incredibly, this so-called reform package does not address the root causes of the financial crisis and continues the trend of taxpayer bailouts for institutions deemed too-big-to-fail. It would make credit more inaccessible even for credit-worthy families and entrepreneurs. All the while, it shamelessly fails to implement needed reforms to the failed and insolvent Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac – the biggest recipients of taxpayer bailouts with $145 billion and counting.

As always, Republicans have better solutions on the table. The RSC has a real budget proposal that achieves a surplus by 2019 (H.Con.Res. 281), and the House Republican plan for real financial reform (H.R. 3310) was unveiled over a year ago.

Outlook – Here is a preview of upcoming Democrat proposals to advance their big-government, anti-taxpayer agenda.

·       The House is scheduled to hold a final vote on the Democrats’ permanent bailout bill this week, as well as a supplemental funding bill for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Democrats will likely try to use the troop funding bill to pass their “fudge-it” budget as well as billions of dollars in totally unrelated domestic spending.

House Floor Activity – The following key legislation came through the House of Representatives last week.

·       The House passed the DISCLOSE Act, a bill that defies the First Amendment by restricting and obstructing political speech by private companies and nonprofit groups while giving broad exemptions to labor unions and a few large special interest groups.

·       The House and Senate both agreed to sanctions on Iran’s energy and financial sectors in an attempt to derail its drive for nuclear weapons. However, the language includes broad waivers demanded by the Obama administration which, if utilized, could undermine this effort.

A bit of rabble rousing...

They say that the White House is averaging a party every three days and has spent ten million dollars on partying AFTER the millions spent on the Inauguration!  Wow.   Imagine if the Obama Administration had done anything worth celebrating?

The mainstream media would have had George Bush drawn and quartered about a month ago over the oil spill that never ends in the Gulf.  It seems that the President is glad to put an end to offshore drilling and doesn't even want the stuff to be cleaned up.  Any one of several ways to clean up the mess, all of which could have done the job in about a week or so, were demonstrated on a Mike Huckabee show a couple of weeks ago.  But Barack Obama wants disasters and depression so he can take over the country.  He has already begun his attack on the internet...

Abortion is more profitable that we thought...

The Democrats are also pushing a bill they know to be unconstitutional, but it benefits incumbents so they are seeking to pass it now and make it work for them in November!
