Congressman Joe Donnelly voted for Obamacare. Joe Donnelly voted to scrap thousands of JOBS! We don't need Joe Donnelly hurting American JOBS anymore!


Joe Donnelly has said "yes" to big government and the Obama agenda and "no" to responsibility.

 
So let's say no to Joe Donnelly and yes to the qualified candidate, Richard Mourdock!



Obamacare has kept small businesses from expanding beyond 49 employees due to the penalty imposed on businesses concerning health care coverage.   Obamacare is nothing more than a wedge to separate Americans from their Constitutional freedoms and their money and also their quality of life.   It was a bill that was so big and complex that no one who voted for it actually knew everything it would do.   But they knew it would ruin our economy and grow government!  When the government provides health care, costs increase and quality of care plummets.   It is the story in Europe and in Canada.   It is important to vote out every Democrat and elect every Republican to make Lake County government responsible to the people rather than special interests and cronies.   It is important to vote out every Democrat and elect every Republican to allow the economy to grow, energy to be utilized and Obamacare dismantled and completely repealed!

Richard Mourdock was a great success as our State Treasurer.   He understands business and he understands budgeting, because here in Indiana we balance our budget.   Joe Donnelly doesn't seem to know much other than if Obama is for it, so is he!   'Nuff said?

We just had Democrat Coroner convicted for public corruption and not even sentenced yet and the US Attorney send out more indictments.    We the people are the only ones who can put competent men and women in office. It is our duty to vote and to vote for the most qualified person. In Lake County it is our duty as voters (even if you may have always voted straight Democrat or split your ticket) to put people in on a local level who will provide oversight, do not have a history of machine politics, and who have a proven record of good ethical behavior. I believe our Republican Candidates fit all the criteria we need to start removing the bad stigma from Lake County’s name.   We will started voting on October 9th. All absentee in person voting sites with operational days and hours can be found here.  You can find your polling location, see who’s on your ballot, and also print off an absentee vote by mail request form by visiting www.indianavoters.com.  Thank you to all the City and Town Chairmen who have filled their poll workers. The clerks and judges are the first protectors of free and fair elections. 10th AnnualCedar Lake/Hanover Chicken Dinner!

This event is a great way to connect with people in your community who care about the community and are working to do something about it!

Last year we had a great time, meeting the vast majority of elected officials who work for the Town of Cedar Lake, for Hanover Township, as well as County and State representatives, councilmen and State Senator Sue Landske, among many others.  

There are door prizes and items for auction and the raffle can be fun if you like being involved in raffles and auctions.   One of our friends won a nice shotgun last year partaking in the auction and my wife received the Mum centerpiece that was at our table. 

There will be a few speeches and a lot of conversation and some really good food, too!  

You may even be able to figure out who I am if you come.  Look for a guy with a full head of hair, a grey beard, a much smaller and cuter wife and blue eyes who really needs to lose some weight and that will probably be me.  I do hope to see you there!

Senator Sue Landse - Cedar Lake's own is spotlighted!

As a grade schooler, I had the opportunity and honor (to me) of being a Page for the Indiana State Senate.   I was utterly amazed at the way business was done, impressed by the tunnel connecting buildings under the street and wondered at the sheer bulk of paperwork representing bills that Senators were expected to review and then vote for or against.  Being a Senate Page made me politically aware at a very young age and also convinced me to remain involved even before I could actually vote.  I was walking the neighborhood passing out candidate flyers back in 1964 and I suppose a number of adults were taken aback, as I had no adult companion.  Did this kid actually decide to do this on his own?  Yes!   If you get the opportunity to be a Senate Page for Senator Landske,  jump at the chance!

I am pleased to be acquainted with a few candidates and a few public officials, some of whom are relatively new to the scene and some who have been around for awhile.   But when my family moved to Cedar Lake in the early 1980's and when my children began attending classes in the Hanover district in 1987, I soon "met" Senator Sue Landske by the messages she sent to my kids - awards honoring their academic achievements, making National Honor Society, making an All-State team...Senator Landske impressed me because she made sure her younger constituents, who could not even vote, were recognized for achieving excellence!  As a father trying to impress upon his children the importance of being great citizens and striving to do their best, Senator Landske's encouragement was greatly appreciated by me and certainly by them.

Later I got to meet her and become acquainted with Sue and her husband, William (Bill), who was serving on the Cedar Lake Town Council at the time.  I discovered what a warm and loving and interesting woman she is, no surprise.  Bill and Sue Landske are good neighbors and friendly, gracious people.  I call her Senator Sue now.  I was delighted to see that she was being featured by the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus, so wanted everyone to see this, below.

Joel has been going out into the communities around the area shaking hands and talking to folks. He has spent a couple of days meeting and greeting folks at the Cedar Lake Summerfest this week. I will share some pictures and stories of Summerfest next week.

EDITORIAL: We endorse Phelps for U.S. House

Two Republicans are vying for the right to challenge U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky, D-Merrillville, in the 1st Congressional District. Visclosky is unopposed.

Republicans Joel Phelps, of Portage, and Dave Wenger, of Valparaiso, are both conservatives, which establishes their GOP credentials. Phelps, however, stands out in this tiny crowd of candidates.
Phelps' grasp of the issues is impressive. He spoke of counteracting the nation's high corporate income tax rate by offering zero income taxes for manufacturing for four years and moving toward a 12 percent flat tax, but without the tax breaks that allow companies like GE to pay little or no taxes.

He wants to attract businesses back to the United States. Lowering the tax rate, while removing loopholes, is one way to do so.

Phelps also sees the value of covert, tactical operations over large-scale military actions. "You get in with a clear mission, and you get out," he said.

"I'm not one of those Republicans who believe defense is sacrosanct," he said.

That's something else to Phelps' credit. He isn't a cookie-cutter Republican.

"For me, it's not so much about D's and R's, it's about ideas," Phelps said.

Phelps opposes the right-to-work legislation that was so divisive in the Indiana General Assembly the past two sessions. "I don't think the Republicans should be enforcing their brand of government any more than the Democrats should," he said.

He also doesn't think the auto industry bailout was a bad thing. "Given the circumstances, I don't think you could have done anything else," Phelps said.

Wenger didn't seem nearly as knowledgeable, nor did he seem to be the independent thinker Phelps is.

We asked Wenger what to do to boost the economy. "Well, I think, nothing," he responded.
Recessions come roughly every 10 years, he noted. True, but this was not a typical recession. This was a huge meltdown.

Wenger also claimed President Barack Obama put together a deal with the United Nations that the U.N. could tell the United States when to go to war. Don't believe Internet rumors.

Both candidates are tilting at windmills in a heavily Democratic district, but perhaps this run will help Phelps get name recognition for a future run for another office.

Phelps would certainly be a fresh alternative to perennial candidate Mark Leyva, who opted this time to run for Lake County commissioner instead.

We endorse Phelps for the Republican nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 1st Congressional District.

CEDAR LAKE | The Cedar Lake Summerfest Committee is seeking entries for some of its most popular contests and events, including the July Fourth Land Parade.

Categories include commercial, marching band, antique auto, political, nonprofit youth, color guard, horse and pony, nonprofit adult, junior color guard and walking units.

The parade will line up at 9 a.m. at Hanover Central High School, 10120 W. 133rd Ave., and start at 10, traveling east 1.4 miles around the north end of the lake to the Park of the Red Cedars.

The annual Cardboard Boat Race will take place at 12:30 p.m. July 4 on Cedar Lake, in front of the Lake of the Red Cedars Museum. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m.

Trophies will be given out for Fastest Time, Best Design and Best Theme in two divisions: ages 10 to 17 and ages 18 and older. A Most People on a Boat award also will be awarded. The Anchor Award will be given to the first boat to sink.

Entry fee is $10 per boat if not in the July Fourth Land Parade, and $5 if in the parade. Send applications to Diane Jostes, c/o of the Cedar Lake Chamber of Commerce, 7925 Lake Shore Drive, Cedar Lake, IN 46303.

If you prefer baking to boating, enter the annual Cedar Lake Summerfest Cupcake Contest, taking place during four days and in four age categories.

All entries will be accepted in the park office at the town complex at 7408 Constitution Ave., and must arrive at least one hour before judging begins.

Judging in the age 13 to 17 category takes place at 5:30 p.m. July 5. Entries for the age 55 and older category takes place at 5:30 p.m. July 6. The category for ages 12 and younger will be judged at noon July 7, and the category for ages 18 to 54 will be judged at noon July 8.

Individuals participating in the contest will need to have a dozen cupcakes ready for judging. There is no entry fee.

Cupcakes will be judged on icing/frosting, flavor and texture, and overall appearance. Bring cupcakes in a disposable container designed specifically for presentation and creativity.

Cedar Lake Summerfest Charity Car Show will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 8 for cars, trucks and motorcycles. First- and second-place trophies will be given out in 33 categories, and five special trophies will be awarded. The show will feature all types, makes, models and years of vehicles.
The show will raise money for the Project Love Food Pantry, Boy Scout Troop 105 and the L’arc en Ciel Theater Group.
