CEDAR LAKE | The Cedar Lake Summerfest Committee is seeking
entries for some of its most popular contests and events, including the
July Fourth Land Parade.
Categories include commercial, marching
band, antique auto, political, nonprofit youth, color guard, horse and
pony, nonprofit adult, junior color guard and walking units.
The
parade will line up at 9 a.m. at Hanover Central High School, 10120 W.
133rd Ave., and start at 10, traveling east 1.4 miles around the north
end of the lake to the Park of the Red Cedars.

The
annual Cardboard Boat Race will take place at 12:30 p.m. July 4 on
Cedar Lake, in front of the Lake of the Red Cedars Museum. Registration
begins at 11:30 a.m.
Trophies will be given out for Fastest Time,
Best Design and Best Theme in two divisions: ages 10 to 17 and ages 18
and older. A Most People on a Boat award also will be awarded. The
Anchor Award will be given to the first boat to sink.
Entry fee is
$10 per boat if not in the July Fourth Land Parade, and $5 if in the

If
you prefer baking to boating, enter the annual Cedar Lake Summerfest
Cupcake Contest, taking place during four days and in four age
categories.
All entries will be accepted in the park office at the
town complex at 7408 Constitution Ave., and must arrive at least one
hour before judging begins.
Judging in the age 13 to 17 category
takes place at 5:30 p.m. July 5. Entries for the age 55 and older
category takes place at 5:30 p.m. July 6. The category for ages 12 and
younger will be judged at noon July 7, and the category for ages 18 to
54 will be judged at noon July 8.
Individuals participating in the contest will need to have a dozen cupcakes ready for judging. There is no entry fee.
Cupcakes
will be judged on icing/frosting, flavor and texture, and overall
appearance. Bring cupcakes in a disposable container designed
specifically for presentation and creativity.

Cedar
Lake Summerfest Charity Car Show will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 8
for cars, trucks and motorcycles. First- and second-place trophies will
be given out in 33 categories, and five special trophies will be
awarded. The show will feature all types, makes, models and years of
vehicles.
The show will raise money for the Project Love Food Pantry, Boy Scout Troop 105 and the L’arc en Ciel Theater Group.
