NEWS from the RSC

From the Chairman
The fireworks in Washington will begin a few days early this week, although there is little cause for celebration. For starters, Democrats plan to hold a vote on their so-called budget – which is not actually a budget at all. This “fudge-it” budget will set an overall spending level for one year. That’s it. Unlike a real budget, the Democrats’ “fudge-it” contains no information on how spending will be divided up and makes no attempt to plan for future spending. It’s a way to duck responsibility for a future of more trillion dollar deficits, but it isn’t a budget.

Democrats are also poised this week to hold the final votes on legislation that, under the guise of “financial reform,” would create the structural framework for a permanent political economy. Incredibly, this so-called reform package does not address the root causes of the financial crisis and continues the trend of taxpayer bailouts for institutions deemed too-big-to-fail. It would make credit more inaccessible even for credit-worthy families and entrepreneurs. All the while, it shamelessly fails to implement needed reforms to the failed and insolvent Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac – the biggest recipients of taxpayer bailouts with $145 billion and counting.

As always, Republicans have better solutions on the table. The RSC has a real budget proposal that achieves a surplus by 2019 (H.Con.Res. 281), and the House Republican plan for real financial reform (H.R. 3310) was unveiled over a year ago.

Sincerely,

Congressman Tom Price
Chairman, Republican Study Committee

Outlook – Here is a preview of upcoming Democrat proposals to advance their big-government, anti-taxpayer agenda.
·       The House is scheduled to hold a final vote on the Democrats’ permanent bailout bill this week, as well as a supplemental funding bill for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Democrats will likely try to use the troop funding bill to pass their “fudge-it” budget as well as billions of dollars in totally unrelated domestic spending.

House Floor Activity – The following key legislation came through the House of Representatives last week.
·       The House passed the DISCLOSE Act, a bill that defies the First Amendment by restricting and obstructing political speech by private companies and nonprofit groups while giving broad exemptions to labor unions and a few large special interest groups.

·       The House and Senate both agreed to sanctions on Iran’s energy and financial sectors in an attempt to derail its drive for nuclear weapons. However, the language includes broad waivers demanded by the Obama administration which, if utilized, could undermine this effort.

RSC Reports
·       Each week, the RSC Budget and Spending Taskforce compiles a weekly report on the latest budget and spending news. Additionally, the RSC Money Monitor tracks how bills passed by the House affect authorizations, mandatory spending, and federal government revenue.

A bit of rabble rousing...

cartoon credit

They say that the White House is averaging a party every three days and has spent ten million dollars on partying AFTER the millions spent on the Inauguration!  Wow.   Imagine if the Obama Administration had done anything worth celebrating?

The mainstream media would have had George Bush drawn and quartered about a month ago over the oil spill that never ends in the Gulf.  It seems that the President is glad to put an end to offshore drilling and doesn't even want the stuff to be cleaned up.  Any one of several ways to clean up the mess, all of which could have done the job in about a week or so, were demonstrated on a Mike Huckabee show a couple of weeks ago.  But Barack Obama wants disasters and depression so he can take over the country.  He has already begun his attack on the internet...

Barack Obama is not just not a Christian guy, he is a mocker.  Check out "Obama Openly Mocks God and Bible."

Abortion is more profitable that we thought...

The Democrats are also pushing a bill they know to be unconstitutional, but it benefits incumbents so they are seeking to pass it now and make it work for them in November!

 Brief · June 21, 2010

The Foundation

"No man can well doubt the propriety of placing a president of the United States under the most solemn obligations to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution." --Joseph Story

Liberty

President or monarch?
"We live in a Constitutional Republic. The President's job under the Constitution is to enforce the laws made by the elected Congress. His job is not to create new laws and enforce them all by himself. His job is as magistrate under the Constitution, not as Caudillo. He is not the law. He is supposed to enforce what Congress decides. The BP behavior is reminiscent of how, immediately after assuming office, Mr. Obama, with no Congressional authority or administrative allowance, simply made a phone call to fire the head of GM. When I called the White House press office to ask under what law or regulation Mr. Obama was acting, I was told he did not need a law. If the government put a lot of money into GM, it could call the shots at GM, I was told. But under what authority, I asked. 'None needed,' was the final answer. ... The same goes for Mr. Obama's demand that BP pay the lost wages of oil and gas workers suspended from work because of the moratorium on Gulf of Mexico underseas drilling. There simply was no legislation allowing this kind of specific demand. Mr. Obama's demand was in the nature of a threat, more than a Constitutional act. ... [T]o create specific enactments and actions without any authority -- now Mr. Obama's specialty -- is so at odds with the law of the land that it terrifies me. These are not the acts of a teacher on Constitutional law. These are the acts of a big city boss or a third world dictator." --columnist Ben Stein

For the Record

"Were the British Empire that fought the War of 1812 still around, America might be looking at a War of 2012. Instead, a rattled BP appears willing to fork over much more money than it will owe, including money for 'lost wages' due to the president's own panicky moratorium. BP obviously invited all of this through its gross incompetence, but what if the same 'lost wages' standard applied to the Obama administration? It, too, is busy destroying the 'way of life' for workers in multiple industries, but in its case that's not even an accident; it is a deliberate plan. Which federal government office should coal and oil rig workers show up at to retrieve their lost wages once Obama's energy laws crippling those industries pass? Obama offers these workers the consolation of a 'clean energy' job in the future. That's very thoughtful of him. These workers can look forward to the prospect of a job, or at the very least a generous interview opportunity for a job, at wind farms several states away from their homes maybe a decade from now. Once again, the Obama administration illustrates that the greatest threat to the economy comes not from the environment but from environmentalists. Hurricanes and oil spills cost workers far fewer jobs than do the policies of trendy pantheism." --columnist George Neumayr

Re: The Left

"Obama is dreamer in chief: He wants to take us to this green future 'even if we're unsure exactly what that looks like. Even if we don't yet precisely know how we're going to get there.' Here's the offer: Tax carbon, spend trillions and put government in control of the energy economy -- and he will take you he knows not where, by way of a road he knows not which. That's why Tuesday's speech was received with such consternation. It was so untethered from reality. The gulf is gushing, and the president is talking mystery roads to unknown destinations. That passes for vision, and vision is Obama's thing. It sure beats cleaning up beaches." --columnist Charles Krauthammer

Government

"Katrina and the Gulf oil spill prove that, at best, government can only get in the way. But at worst -- like so-called global warming, lack of border security and unfunded Social Security -- they are all part of the same thing: government created problems that government prevents from being solved. The resultant discourse leads to weakening the resolve of the people to resist the 'helping' heavy hand of government. Put another way, government has an incentive to not solve problems, the Arizona immigration law being a perfect case in point where government has really shown its hand. Problems are its fuel -- fuel needed to empower itself and enslave its subjects. In the now infamous words of Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel: a crisis is a terrible thing to waste." --columnist W.R. Wansley

The Gipper

"We who live in free market societies believe that growth, prosperity and ultimately human fulfillment, are created from the bottom up, not the government down. Only when the human spirit is allowed to invent and create, only when individuals are given a personal stake in deciding economic policies and benefitting from their success -- only then can societies remain economically alive, dynamic, progressive, and free. Trust the people. This is the one irrefutable lesson of the entire postwar period contradicting the notion that rigid government controls are essential to economic development." --Ronald Reagan

Did you Know...that simple good manners have all but vanished?

Remember when women were treated like true ladies?  Men stood up when they entered a room.  If walking on a sidewalk, men would walk to the curbside (originally to protect women from runaway horses) and men never cussed in women’s' presence.  Nor did women use "gamey" language.

Children addressed adults as Mr. and Mrs.  When company came, children would greet guests, shake hands, and then vanish.  When guests at our museum are given a tour, they are reminded upon seeing the Larsen’s parlor, that children were "seen and not heard."  Adults rate their own special time too.  "Respect you elders" was the rule.  Children answered "Yes sir" and "No ma'am."
The way we dress has also lost its respect too..  College professors and business men were always in coat and tie.  This showed respect for customers and students, respect for themselves, and respect for their place of employment.  After all, respect is a two way street-give it, and you receive it.

Remember when men always wore hats, and women wore gloves and hats when going "downtown shopping?"

Letter writing is a lost art.  Now there are phone calls, e-mails, and texting.  Among our young people, texting is the most prevalent. How do you tell the "tone" of a person's message in such a shortened text?  With Face Book and twittering, there is also a big lack of respect for privacy.  People's day to day events of their lives are posted for all to see.  How about the simple R.S.V.P. (respondez s'il vous plait- in French meaning respond please)?  Who does this anymore?

The only place to still use common courteously and take time for respect for kindness, seems to be in the South. There's still a prevalence of taking time to be interested in one another.  Life moves at a slower pace.  There is less of the automatic and boring "Have a nice day." This especially irritates me if it is evening and the employee refers to day.  Instead of commanding a nice day, the little courtesies of yesteryear MADE it a nice day!

Cedar Lake Update June 15th Edition

Parks and Recreation Survey

Please take a few moments to complete our Parks and Recreation Survey. Your input will help us plan our park services to better serve you.

2010 Census Participation Rate at 79%

Your participation in the 2010 Census is crucial to the future of Cedar Lake. For every person that is not counted, the Town loses an estimated $8,200 in State and Federal funding.  If for some reason you have not filled out and sent in your Census information, now is the time to move it and groove it!  We need to get all the tax dollars we get taken from us back.

Cedar Lake Summerfest is coming beginning July 2nd!

And now a word from our Partisan Worldview....

Thanks to the facebook page of my photographer friend Thomas Semesky:

Or are you going to get off your butts and fight for your country back?

1) Register to vote.
2) Vote for the person running AGAINST the Democrat.
3) Rinse and repeat.

~

Do you think that the oil spill would have been cleaned up lo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ong ago if someone like Mike Huckabee was President?

Are you kidding me?  We would have soaked it all up and recycled most of the oil and converted the rest into fishfood!   Barack Obama is either evil or stupid or both.   Hmmmm.  Tough choice there.

When will Lake County Government be Cleaned up?

Clean up photo credit

When will Lake County Government be Cleaned up?

When YOU are ready to start working for Republican candidates because YOU are fed up with public officials taking bonus money from the taxpayers without authorization

When YOU are ready to work on new voter registration because YOU are fed up with public officials being indicted for using YOUR hard-earned tax dollars

When YOU are ready to tell YOUR friends to join the Republican party because YOU are fed up with public officials taking county owned gasoline for their own personal use.

When YOU are ready to make a contribution to support Republican candidates in Lake County because YOU are fed up with political arrogance with thinking they are above the law.

ARE YOU READY?
